Presentation

Which brief did you choose and why?

I chose the advertisement brief as it was the one that made me feel as if it was going to be a challenge for me but not impossible. I knew that this brief would challenge the skills that I already have as well as introducing new skills and having to them well. Furthermore, i also chose this brief as the other two briefs didn't appeal to me as much, as i knew that it would challenge my skills to a point where I would struggle immensely. In addition to this, I also chose this brief as I liked the idea of creating my one advert, sponsorship advert and a radio advert as they are all very different and produce different meanings.

Examples of Adverts that inspire my project..

This video is from youtube showing the 10 most effective adverts.. these type of adverts are the ones that make you sit back and think, they tend to be very deep emotionally and mentally, pulling the audiences heart strings.

the first advert is about house fires and adults not checking if their fire alarm is working, the little boy has asked for the audience to make a promise that they will check their alarms on change over day. By using a young child, this allows a target audience of mothers and fathers who have young children to think about checking their alarms otherwise you will be in the little boys position. Watching this video myself was touching and emotional.

the second advert was about a young father and son playing in a field when the father gets a call, he doesn't pay attention to the young boy who decides to climb up a tree, meanwhile there is a lady doing the dishes in the kitchen of what looks like their house and that's the mother, only when the boy falls out the tree as an audience we see that the women in the kitchen was a first aider. Again by using a young child pulls the audiences heart strings.

Uses of shadows in films

.The use of shadows to enrich the a film's atmosphere or narrative has been with us since the earliest cinema. Shadows can also play a part within a character, portraying them as if they live a double life, having two personalities. Here are some films that have used shadowing to create an effect..

1. Nosferatu
To set the tone, maybe an obvious choice but wonderfully atmospheric and influential, Max Shrek's shadowy arrival at our heroine's bedchamber in Nosferatu.

2. Fantasia

The Sorcerer's Apprentice section of Fantasia is classic Disney studio animation, weaving the shadows cast by characters and objects through the entire piece to great effect.

4. Cat People

The classic clip from Cat People that most people who know the film
are familiar with is the swimming pool scene. However, as it's just as much about the casting of light and reflection as the use of shadows, I decided to choose a later scene from the film which uses shadows cast on a wall to suggest the transformation from woman to panther. It's also an example of how to build a thrilling scene on a shoestring budget – and epitomizes a classic Val Lew ton production.

Controversial Advertisement

"Images speaks louder than words"

Different demographics find different adverts controversial. Advertisers have to be sure they fully understand their target audience before they start making a controversial advert. Amnesty International and Benetton are known for their thought provoking images about global issues. Government and charity messages speaking out about domestic violence, child abuse and healthcare make for difficult viewing but start stimulate conversations.

Public Service Announcement

The public service announcement is there to inform the general public of a topic, these topics can be based on anything ranging from animal abuse to speeding and littering. They will try and play on our emotions to make us think and do something about it.

Seductive Advertisement

Seductive commercial will play on one of our most primal emotions, temptation. It will make us lust for whatever product the commercial is trying to sell...
Gucci by Gucci 'Pour Homme' (James Franco)

The first commercial is for Gucci. This ad star’s James Franco a Hollywood actor and man many women find very attractive. The ad makes James Franco look as classy and attractive as possible and suggests that if you wear Gucci you too will be as attractive and successful as James Franco, it is obvious that by buying Gucci we won’t suddenly become famous Hollywood actors but we still subconsciously believe it.

Marks and Spencers Christmas Food Ad
The second ad is a Christmas commercial for Marks and Spencer; the ad shows their food in such a lustful manner it’s almost sexual. Many people, as a result of watching this commercial will buy some Marks and Spencer’s food so they’ll have the most desirable Christmas dinner.
