Presentation

Which brief did you choose and why?

I chose the advertisement brief as it was the one that made me feel as if it was going to be a challenge for me but not impossible. I knew that this brief would challenge the skills that I already have as well as introducing new skills and having to them well. Furthermore, i also chose this brief as the other two briefs didn't appeal to me as much, as i knew that it would challenge my skills to a point where I would struggle immensely. In addition to this, I also chose this brief as I liked the idea of creating my one advert, sponsorship advert and a radio advert as they are all very different and produce different meanings.

Examples of Adverts that inspire my project..

This video is from youtube showing the 10 most effective adverts.. these type of adverts are the ones that make you sit back and think, they tend to be very deep emotionally and mentally, pulling the audiences heart strings.

the first advert is about house fires and adults not checking if their fire alarm is working, the little boy has asked for the audience to make a promise that they will check their alarms on change over day. By using a young child, this allows a target audience of mothers and fathers who have young children to think about checking their alarms otherwise you will be in the little boys position. Watching this video myself was touching and emotional.

the second advert was about a young father and son playing in a field when the father gets a call, he doesn't pay attention to the young boy who decides to climb up a tree, meanwhile there is a lady doing the dishes in the kitchen of what looks like their house and that's the mother, only when the boy falls out the tree as an audience we see that the women in the kitchen was a first aider. Again by using a young child pulls the audiences heart strings.

Uses of shadows in films

.The use of shadows to enrich the a film's atmosphere or narrative has been with us since the earliest cinema. Shadows can also play a part within a character, portraying them as if they live a double life, having two personalities. Here are some films that have used shadowing to create an effect..

1. Nosferatu
To set the tone, maybe an obvious choice but wonderfully atmospheric and influential, Max Shrek's shadowy arrival at our heroine's bedchamber in Nosferatu.

2. Fantasia

The Sorcerer's Apprentice section of Fantasia is classic Disney studio animation, weaving the shadows cast by characters and objects through the entire piece to great effect.

4. Cat People

The classic clip from Cat People that most people who know the film
are familiar with is the swimming pool scene. However, as it's just as much about the casting of light and reflection as the use of shadows, I decided to choose a later scene from the film which uses shadows cast on a wall to suggest the transformation from woman to panther. It's also an example of how to build a thrilling scene on a shoestring budget – and epitomizes a classic Val Lew ton production.

Controversial Advertisement

"Images speaks louder than words"

Different demographics find different adverts controversial. Advertisers have to be sure they fully understand their target audience before they start making a controversial advert. Amnesty International and Benetton are known for their thought provoking images about global issues. Government and charity messages speaking out about domestic violence, child abuse and healthcare make for difficult viewing but start stimulate conversations.

Public Service Announcement

The public service announcement is there to inform the general public of a topic, these topics can be based on anything ranging from animal abuse to speeding and littering. They will try and play on our emotions to make us think and do something about it.

Anti-speeding

Parents awareness-

Seductive Advertisement

Seductive commercial will play on one of our most primal emotions, temptation. It will make us lust for whatever product the commercial is trying to sell...
Gucci by Gucci 'Pour Homme' (James Franco)

The first commercial is for Gucci. This ad star’s James Franco a Hollywood actor and man many women find very attractive. The ad makes James Franco look as classy and attractive as possible and suggests that if you wear Gucci you too will be as attractive and successful as James Franco, it is obvious that by buying Gucci we won’t suddenly become famous Hollywood actors but we still subconsciously believe it.

Marks and Spencers Christmas Food Ad
The second ad is a Christmas commercial for Marks and Spencer; the ad shows their food in such a lustful manner it’s almost sexual. Many people, as a result of watching this commercial will buy some Marks and Spencer’s food so they’ll have the most desirable Christmas dinner.

Humorous Advertisement

A humorous commercial will attempt to make people laugh. Comedy is one of the highest forms of entertainment, not only will people enjoy the ad,  they may also show there friends and family to make them laugh. We also tend to remember more things which have made us laugh as it lifts our spirits up if we are ever down. As well as showing family/friends you are also promoting the advertisement widening their audiences.

I found this ad deceiving as at first the young man is wanting to become a karate master and its all very sad as he cant do it, until he grows older and manages to do everything, but to get the symbol they all have to be apart of the group is to squash the Pepsi can with his head so it prints onto his forehead. It is very silly humour but will attract more of the younger audience, or immature audience who will want to try this out for themselves.

Modern Advertisement

Modern commercials wont be dated or made to look retro. In fact the advertisement will try to look futuristic and to be the latest in what ever the topic of the commercial is.
This commercial is an advertisement for the game called Call Of Duty. This live action commercial aired in order to promote the game. As it’s a modern advertisement it is able to do more visual effects and CGI something that advertisers wouldn’t have been able to achieve just a few years ago plus they have people relevant and popular today, as you can see this commercial stars two huge Hollywood actors, John Hill playing the role of the “nOOb”and Sam Worthington playing the role of the “Vet”.

I like the thought of doing a modern commercial as it is challenging, however it will be very difficult as the editing will have to be so precise. and as editing to that extent is not one of my best skills, it will almost be impossible for me create something so creative and high skilled.

Charity Advertisement

Charity Advertisement is a big thing on the TV and Radio, they are commercials that will play with your emotions in order to donate money or join in their events. Charities such as Oxfam, they produce these commercials of young children in different parts of the world who need food and drink, by showing you the children, allows the audience to be drawn in by sympathy as it plays with your emotions, making the audience wanting to donate to the company.

Another type of Charity is for Animals, RSPCA is a large company homing cats/dogs and many more. these types of adverts is mainly targeted for pet lovers, they show you the story behind a certain dog or cat and how they were mistreated, to how they are now. They do this by drawing you into the story, making you sympathize with the animals, as well as wanting them to be your pet.

Race for life is a different type of advertisement as it is to do with fighting illnesses that ruining many peoples lives. Race for life is an event that Breast Cancer UK prepare for ladies to do a 5k run/walk/jog in order to raise money to cure cancer or 'Fight Cancer'. This commercial is mainly targeted at women who have suffered or knows someone who has suffered from this particular cancer or simply wants to support the campaign, coming together to raise awareness.

Brief

I have chosen to do an Advertising package for a new product or service, this will include two TV advertisements with:

  • A TV programme sponsorship sequences
  • A radio Advertisement (or web pop-up)

I have decided to go down the route of advertising as it was the only brief that stood out to me and interested me the most. I think that it will widen my skills as I will have to challenge myself to use different programs that I am not confident with. I think it will benefit me as a person as I will be able to show off new skills and old skills and put them into practice.

I haven't completely decided what type of advertisement I want to do however I do have a list of genres that I would like to research before I decide..

Brief One - Music Video

Music video

The idea of creating a music video really interests me, however when I looked further into it I realised it wouldn't be easy at all and it is most probably one of the most complicated briefs out of all five. although the idea of making a music video comes across as quite cool and different, even though it would be a huge challenge for me as I am not familiar with photoshop or garage band and other editing programmes, I only really have thee basic skills whereas for this project i would need quite high skills if I wanted my end product to be successful!

In contrast to this, I do like the idea of having to find my own vocalist and band although that alone sounds so tricky. As well as this, I don't know many people who are in a band who aren't already busy with gigs, where as I would like my music video to quite a big part for them to take part in so that i will have full attention from each member, which obviously is slightly impossible to find!

As well as this, the preparation before making the music video seems very difficult and involves a lot of patience and trial n error which isn't one of my best skills. One of these being the digipack, Mr Ford was explaining how the previous years took months just to complete the digipack which for me being a fairly impatient person and wanting to get things done there and then, it would frustrate and stress me out.

I have done some research from the previous years musics videos, and reading through there blogs it is very difficult and challenging. Although there end product was impressive! I watched Jordan Searls and Prentice as they were two different genre of music and the videos were different, I wanted to see how they make the video and how it ends out.
